Refreshing summer drink in a clear glass garnished with mint, placed on a picnic table.

Virgin Watermelon Margarita

A frosty, five-minute mocktail that captures all the sunny, pool-party vibes of a classic margarita—minus the booze. Ripe watermelon brings natural sweetness and hydration, fresh lime delivers that unmistakable “margarita” tang, and a splash of sparkling water adds effervescent fun. Perfect for BBQs, kids’ birthdays, or any time you want a vacation in a glass—zero proof, 100 % refreshing.

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 2 mocktails

Ingredients

  • Ingredients (makes 2 mocktails):

    • 4 cups seedless watermelon, cubed

    • ¼ cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)

    • 23 Tbsp agave nectar or simple syrup, to taste

    • Pinch (⅛ tsp) sea salt

    • 1 cup sparkling water (plain or lime-flavored)

    • Crushed ice (for serving)

    • Garnish: lime wheels, fresh mint, or Tajín-salt rim

Instructions

  1. Blend the base: Add watermelon cubes, lime juice, agave, and sea salt to a blender; blend until completely smooth (≈30 seconds).

  2. Strain for silkiness: Pour the purée through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher, pressing gently to remove pulp.

  3. Add the fizz & chill: Stir in the sparkling water, then refrigerate the pitcher for at least 15 minutes so flavors meld and bubbles stay lively.

  4. Prep the glasses: Run a lime wedge around each rim, dip into coarse salt or Tajín, and fill glasses with crushed ice.

  5. Serve: Pour the chilled mixture over ice, garnish with a lime wheel or mint sprig, and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Extra fizz: Chill all ingredients beforehand so the drink stays bubblier longer.

  • Sweetness swap: Substitute honey for agave for a subtle floral note.

  • Spicy twist: Blend in a thin jalapeño slice or rim the glass with Tajín for gentle heat.

  • Leftovers: Freeze any remaining mixture in popsicle molds for hydrating watermelon-lime pops.
