Ingredients
-
1 cup (240 ml) hot water (just off the boil)
-
½ medium lemon, juiced (≈ 1 Tbsp / 15 ml)
-
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger (≈ 2 g)
-
Optional: 1 teaspoon raw honey, or to taste
Instructions
-
Heat the water until just boiling, then let it cool for about 1 minute so it’s hot but not scalding.
-
Juice the ½ lemon into a heat-proof mug.
-
Grate the ginger directly into the mug (or steep it in a tea infuser for a milder flavor).
-
Pour the hot water over the lemon and ginger. Stir well.
-
Add raw honey if you prefer a touch of sweetness.
-
Sip slowly on an empty stomach first thing in the morning or 20 minutes before meals.
Notes
-
Too spicy? Steep sliced ginger for 3-4 minutes instead of grating it, or reduce to ½ tsp.
-
Too tart? Add honey or a splash of 100 % apple juice.
-
No fresh ginger? Substitute ½ tsp ground ginger.
-
Make-ahead: Prep lemon juice and grated ginger in ice-cube trays; thaw 1 cube in a mug, add hot water, and go.
-
Flavor twists: Add fresh mint, a cinnamon stick, or a pinch of cayenne for extra warmth.
-
