A warm and comforting homemade apple cider made in a slow cooker, perfect for fall gatherings.

  • Total Time: 375 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 810 apples (a mix of sweet and tart varieties)
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 23 orange slices (optional)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar or honey (to taste)
  • 8 cups water

Instructions

  1. Chop the apples into quarters (no need to peel or core) and slice the oranges if using.
  2. Toss apples, oranges, spices, and sweetener into the slow cooker.
  3. Add enough water to cover the fruit, about 8 cups.
  4. Set the crockpot to low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
  5. Once cooked, use a wooden spoon to mash the apples in the pot.
  6. Strain the cider through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a bowl.
  7. Press the apples to extract more juice. Serve warm with optional garnishes like cinnamon sticks or whipped cream.

Notes

Experiment with additional spices like star anise or allspice for unique flavor variations.
